West Philadelphia's Community Radio Station

WPEB 88.1 FM and now W236CL 95.1 FM provide a much needed local, progressive, and accountable media outlet to serve as a voice for West Philadelphia’s many communities. It provides a forum for individuals and community based organizations to discuss the issues that affect us, play music not heard on mainstream media and promote education and creative substantive expression.

Background

WPEB was reborn in early 2008 as a community radio station serving West Philadelphia, with stewardship from Scribe Video Center. The station has been supported by local partners like the Philadelphia Independent Media Center (Philly IMC), the Prometheus Radio Project, and a growing network of community and cultural organizations. WPEB is a platform for West Philadelphia’s diverse communities and has become a local, grassroots outlet for music, dialogue, and ideas often left out of mainstream media. We amplify the work of community-based organizations, provide space to discuss issues that matter locally, and encourage creative, educational, and meaningful expression.
