Born To Be with Tania Cypriano (USA, 2019, 92 min)
Born to Be is Tania Cypriano’s remarkably moving documentary about New York’s Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery. Soon after New York state passed a 2015 law that health insurance should cover transgender-related care and services, director Tania Cypriano and producer Michelle Hayashi began bringing their cameras behind the scenes at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital. With extraordinary access, the film follows the work of Dr. Jess Ting, offering an intimate look at how one doctor’s work impacts the lives of his patients as they undergo the physical and emotional journey of surgical transitioning.
