Joie Lee, celebrated actress, director, producer, and screenwriter, will join us at Scribe to discuss her career and artistic evolution.  The evening will include reflections on writing the autobiographical Spike Lee classic, Crooklyn (1994), and a rare screening of her newest short films.  


Joie Lee, a Brooklyn-born actress, writer, producer, and director, is best known as the original screenwriter of Crooklyn (1994) and for her performances in films such as Do the Right Thing (1989) and Mo’ Better Blues (1990), directed by her brother Spike Lee. She has also written and directed short films, including Subway Vignettes and Snapped (2001), and contributed as both writer and actor to Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It (2017).
