New Works Produced Through Scribe’s 14-Week Workshop

The 14-Week Workshop covers all aspects of film and video production and supports participants in the completion of short projects. Many of this year’s participants are also members of Scribe’s Film Scholars. The program consists of a series of short-form documentary videomaking training courses designed to support emerging filmmakers in completing new work. Join us in celebrating these new films:

Destinies by Aaron Victor Vaughn
Sibling rivals in the film industry only agree on one thing: that their father may not live to see either of them succeed. 

Land Where I Rize by Da Saint
Land Where I Rize is one of three parts in the Poetic Documentary Land of Reconciliation, where artist and filmmaker, Da Saint, explores their lived experience as an Afro-Caribbean American. A first-generation child born to Hatian immigrants—in this film, Da Saint poetically reflects on  language, culture and tradition; what is lost, found and what is preserved for the sake of self-preservation. 

Things We Gathered from the Fire by Erica Hawkins

Things We Gathered from the Fire is a short documentary that focuses on the impact of racial trauma on children. This film explores the trauma that director Erica has endured due to her father's racially motivated death and her journey to resilience.

Practice by Adrienne Dolberry

During her practice, she slips between the present and a daydream. Ruminating on challenges from the past, she leans on practice—to process, to reconcile, and to move forward to what’s most important in her life. 

The Accomplices by Christina Blackburn

How victims of domestic abuse are retraumatized and revictimized by the systems and people they seek help from.

Justice for Matt by Lois Moses
A heroic journey of a young woman’s quest to bring her brother’s assailant to justice and bring peace to her mother and entire family.

Adversity vs Versatility: Such As Life, The Making of EweNique's Stories by Wanda Davis
(USA, 2021, 12 min)
This documentary is a compilation of interviews directly related to overcoming adversity while also sharing periods of adversity told through a 7 Book Series, all written by Wanda Davis. Chapters included in the film are, #1 EweNique's PoeticVersion, #3 The Conspiracy Theory, #6 From No House to Morehouse, and more.
