Throughout his 30 year career, Lowell Boston has explored and pushed the boundaries of animation, creating films of depth, movement and intrigue. In this one-night grouping of the artist’s work, audiences will experience the dexterous and complex world’s Boston has created through animated and live-action short films, films which often draw inspiration from the artist's everyday surroundings and personal life. Lowell Boston is a writer, animator, filmmaker and college professor who lives in Collingswood, New Jersey. Boston currently teaches animation at University of the Arts, Jefferson University and Maryland Institute College of Art. Boston’s personal and professional work has been shown on WYBE/MiND TV 35 Philadelphia, PhillyCAM, and his independent and collaborative films have been screened in national and international film festivals.

Water Born

Six people of color are asked a direct question - Do you know how to swim? Their amazing answers and stories are turned into beautiful works of animation and live action that question and challenge whether a crippling stereotype, one that has plagued African-Americans for decades, is true or not.

Slipstream

(2017, USA, 7 min)

There are channels and frequencies of existence. Facets of reality osculant to ours where time and space is perceived differently. Chance tangents of passage only exist through the Slipstream. An experimental film combining kinetic and audio collage in the guise of a science probe getting lost.

Falling Sky

(USA, 2017, 3 min)

A short, experimental riding film. A mundane scooter ride is taken to another level of perception, and point of view.

Camden

(USA, 2006, 10 min)

Personal documentary with animated poetry on Lowell’s commute through the city of Camden, New Jersey.
