Join us for an opening reception of works featuring the quilts of Gloria Davis. On view Friday, August 18 - Friday, September 29.

Gloria Davis is an assemblage artist, doll-maker, jewelry designer, art quilter, knitter, painter, and polymer clay artist. Gloria uses unique sculpture techniques that combine art quilts, sculpture (fabric and cray) textiles, found objects, wood, and beading. Gloria first tapped into her artist abilities when her aunt taught her how to sew and when she carved a lamb out of a bar of soap in elementary school - introducing her to sculpture.

Gloria pursued her artist passion and received full honors while obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at Cheyney University. She now teaches Adult and children classes at Philadelphia Free Library, Nile Swim Club, Germantown Friends School, Emlen Elementary School, Wynnefield Resident Association and The Philadelphia Museum of Art.  Gloria is on the Sankofa Artisan Guild curatorial team for the Harriett Tubman exhibition that is traveling throughout the US. She is also featured in quilting books - “Black Pioneer Legacy in the American West” and “We Are the Story, A visual Response to Racism” by Carolyn Mazloomi in 2021.

“As a quilt maker, Gloria Davis goes beyond the surface and often the traditional square in her process of creation. An impeccable artist,  her designs make use of three-dimensional elements, giving us a new understanding of quilting.”
-John Abner, curator of the Gary Smalls Project at Scribe Video Center.
