Haile Gerima is an independent filmmaker and professor of film at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He is a leading figure in Third World Cinema, and a foundational force of the “LA Rebellion” Independent Cinema movement. Gerima’s other films include Bush Mama (1976), Ashes & Embers (1982), and Sankofa (1993).
