Loose Pages Bound: Asian Americans in the Delaware Valley

Shot on 16mm, Loose Pages was the first film about the area’s growing Asian American community. Long-established residents, newer immigrants, and recent refugees talk in their homes, in the street, and at community gatherings about their experiences, hopes, and efforts to maintain their Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures. At this first screening of Loose Pages Bound in decades, JT Takagi, the film’s sound recordist and editor and the Executive Director of Third World Newsreel, will discuss the film and the work of Christine Choy. 

Christine Choy was born in Shanghai to a Chinese mother and Korean father and was a pioneer in radical social justice and Asian-American filmmaking. She moved to the US in her teens, joined the Newsreel film collective, and became an activist-filmmaker in the New York area in the 1960s. The co-founder of Third World Newsreel, Choy has nearly 50 films to her credit including the Oscar-nominated and Peabody-winning Who Killed Vincent Chin? (1987), made with Renee Tajima-Peña. Choy passed away in December 2025.
