The art of archive: ‘MILISUTHANDO’ as a case study on subverting the unreliable archive with Milisuthando Bongela: Special Learning Session

What does it mean to encounter one’s historical representation in a motion picture? How do you read, subvert, and work with propaganda footage from an ethical and artistic perspective? This session will use scenes from Milisuthando and how we reconstructed a historical perspective from unreliable propaganda footage, thus reclaiming the footage and the rewards and challenges of this approach.
