The Precious Places Community History Project is a community oral history project inviting members of the Philadelphia region's many neighborhoods to document the buildings, public spaces, parks, landmarks and other sites that hold the memories of our communities and define where we live. Precious Places teaches the video production process to participating groups, fostering projects authored by those who intimately know the featured neighborhoods.

Film Summary:

For many Philadelphian's the presence of indigenous culture appears only in street signs, statues, and museums - symbolic remembrances of the Lenape, "the original people”, who were forcibly removed from their land. However, today’s Philadelphia is home to numerous indigenous communities from across North, Central and South America. This film tells the story of how Belmont Plateau served as a powerful gathering space for Philadelphia's indigenous communities for over a decade and the impact the loss of that space had. Voices from these communities share their histories and give testimony to the importance of having an indigenous gathering space to convene, celebrate and pass on traditions.
