Are you a filmmaker or an artist who wants to reach a broader audience? As video projectors have become more powerful and less expensive, more artists are using them as tools to make large scale highly visible public arts works to reach a large audience. This workshop will go over some of the basic practical aspects of creating animated images for projection on buildings, billboards and other public spaces, including softwares for projection, mapping techniques and recent creative examples of work made with these tools.
Tim Portlock is a visual artist who creates work in a variety of mediums from painting to computer technology. His digital work varies from virtual realty interactive narratives to 3D simulations of historic spaces such asVirtual Harlem and Smoke City. He has exhibited at Arts Electronica (Austria), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago) and ISEA (Japan). An assistant professor in the Film and Media Studies at Hunter College, Portlock’s animation were selected for Scribe’s eSights, eSounds new media initiative.
