In this Special Learning session, learn from award-winning film and television director Phil Bertelsen as he guides participants on the making and completion of The Picture Taker, a documentary on the Memphis based civil rights photographer Ernest Withers. Begun by the late filmmaker St. Clair Bourne (1943-2017), Phil Bertelsen took on this documentary after Bourne’s death, carrying a complex multi-decade project over the finish line.
Emmy and Peabody winner Phil Bertelsen directed Through the Fire, School of the Future, and episodes of The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross and Finding Your Roots. He co-directed NBC’s Hope and Fury: MLK, the Movement and the Media and Netflix's Who Killed Malcolm X?, which helped exonerate two men convicted of Malcolm X’s murder.
Producer's Forum of The Picture Taker with Phil Bertelsen and Lise Yasui will take place December 14
In-person at Scribe Video Center.
