Idrissou Mora-Kpai incorporates the dual experiences and sensibility of being both African and a migrant in his films. These films question and encounter historical misrepresentations that black subjects continue to contend with and counter by documenting their own images, telling their own stories, and bringing forth new perspectives. In this special learning session, join Idrissou Mora -Kpai as he discusses his process of carving out authentic aesthetics that speaks to telling the histories and stories of post-colonial African societies, African migrations, and diasporas. Idrissou Mora-Kpai is an award winning filmmaker and teacher whose films have screened world-wide at numerous festivals in Berlin, Rotterdam, Busan, Sheffield and more. Born in Benin, West Africa, Idrissou’s filmography includes Indochina: Traces of a Mother”, Arlit The Second Paris, and Si-Gueriki, The Queen Mother. He is a recipient of the prestigious Dutch Prince Claus Award for his artistic achievements dedicated to promote social change in the Global South. Mora-Kpai is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media Arts, Sciences and Studies at Ithaca College.
