Scribe Video Center Program:

The Precious Places Community History Project is a community oral history project inviting members of the Philadelphia region's many neighborhoods to document the buildings, public spaces, parks, landmarks and other sites that hold the memories of our communities and define where we live. Precious Places teaches the video production process to participating groups, fostering projects authored by those who intimately know the featured neighborhoods.

Film Summary:

Dahlak Paradise is an Eritrean bar and restaurant that has served as an anchor for the Baltimore Avenue business corridor, East African community, and West Philly natives and transplants alike for the past 30 years. Beyond simply an establishment, Dahlak is an institution that serves as an important cultural and social meeting place for activists, artists, academics, neighbors, and more. The hope of peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea was realized in West Philly.
