Films Included In The Compilation:

Face To Face by Asian Americans United

This dynamic tape video, produced by the AAU youth group, explores issues of identity, culture and rights. Shot in a raw, shaky-cam style, Face to Face has fun recontextualizing popular Asian cinematic caricatures, but primarily focuses on the faces of its 10 teen directors. They describe how they deal with stereotypes at school, being harassed by the police, and being in gangs -- or just having people assume that they're in one (00:17:11). Read more

Reconstruction, Inc. by Reconstruction, Inc.

Reconstruction, Inc. is a program of rehabilitation for parolees and their families which helps former inmates to reestablish themselves in the community by overcoming cycles of violent behavior and understanding their own motivations and needs. The video includes interviews with former inmates, Reconstruction participants and activists, as well as Reconstruction founder and executive director William Goldsby, who outlines the four-year process of re-integration. As prison rights activist Father Paul Washington succinctly states, the greatest tragedy that could befall a human being is that one sees no reason to even hope. I feel there must always be hope. That’s why I will not give up for a second time offender, or a third, or fourth (00:19:15). Read more

Currency Of Community by Triangle Interests

Sometimes it's all about money, honey. Triangle Interests is a lesbian membership association committed to creating opportunities for women to improve their economic status through education and socially responsible investment opportunities. Their video wisely emphasizes the importance of women taking care of their own economic futures and ways women can use their economic power in a positive and constructive manner (00:13:00).
