Scribe Video Center Program:

The Precious Places Community History Project is a community oral history project inviting members of the Philadelphia region's many neighborhoods to document the buildings, public spaces, parks, landmarks and other sites that hold the memories of our communities and define where we live. Precious Places teaches the video production process to participating groups, fostering projects authored by those who intimately know the featured neighborhoods.

Film Story:

La Mott is home to a number of great historical monuments, from Camp William Penn where African American soldiers trained to fight in the Civil War, to Lucretia Mott’s estate, which became a hub in the Underground Railroad and a rallying place for antislavery advocates such as Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth and William Lloyd Garrison.  Among these sites rests an 80-year-old community garden, recently endangered by the pending sale of the property to developers and a township Revitalization Plan that aims to “blend La Mott with Lynnewood Gardens,” a privately-owned apartment complex.
