Longitudinal documentary filmmaking is the practice of filming a documentary and its subject matter over a long period of time. Filming the same people and community over the course of several years takes patience, tenacity and a lot of courage. There’s no certainty of where you and your subjects will end up and what kind
of story arcs you’ll capture along the way. In this special learning session, join Jennifer Maytorena Taylor as she discusses her process, approach and the rewards to long-form filmmaking.

Jennifer Maytorena Taylor’s research interests include long-form and short-form filmmaking for emerging platforms, collaborative production practices, and the intersection of point-of-view storytelling and journalism. She has over two decades of experience as an award-winning filmmaker of feature and short documentary films. Her new vérité feature For the Love of Rutland explores three years in the life of a small blue-collar town grappling with deep change in an era of refugee crises, the opioid epidemic, and extreme ideological and cultural polarization.
