Novella Nelson’s extensive acting career has involved wide-ranging roles in film, theater and television. She also has a highly successful career as a voice-over artist. This Master Class is designed for actors, authors, performers, radio hosts and anyone who wishes to learn the craft of being a professional voice-over artist. Through a variety of exercises, recordings, critique and discussion, participants will explore the process of shaping and shifting your voice to embody characters and moods. Nelson will also share personal experiences of entering the business and how to prepare your resume and voice-over reel.

INSTRUCTOR: Novella Nelson has worked as a film actress with directors Francis Ford Coppola (Cotton Club), Peter Weir (Green Card), Denzel Washington (Antoine Fisher), Spike Lee (Clockers) and Thomas Vinterberg/Lars van Trier (Dear Wendy). She has appeared on Broadway in Having Our Say, Purlie, The Little Foxes and Hello Dolly, as well as on stage in Brecht’s The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui (National Actors’ Theater), Fugard’s Boesman and Lena (Yale Repertory Theater) and Oedipus (Harvard’s American Repertory Theater). In London in 2007 she performed at the Young Vic and at the Almeida Theater in the premiere of The Big White Fog. Her television credits include The West Wing and the role of Judge Fitzwater on One Life to Live. Ms. Nelson has also directed at Lincoln Center Theater, the Public Theater and the Negro Ensemble Company.
