Super 8 Hand Processing

Super 8 Hand-processing is an adventurous hands-on technique that adds character and texture to your footage. Participants will have access to Super-8 cameras to shoot an in-camera film, 1 roll of Super 8 film and all the chemicals and supplies required for processing. During these two days you learn how to use a Super 8 camera, film stocks, speeds and processing options and by day two learn the chemistry of hand-processing By the end, your newly developed roll of film will be loaded into the Super 8 projector and screened!

Super 8 Hand-processing

DATES: Friday, August 7 and Saturday August 8; TIME: Friday 6:30 – 9:30 PM and Saturday from noon to 5pm

Super 8 film continues to be a popular movie maker’s medium, with its unique look and feel. Hand-processing is an adventurous hands-on technique that adds character and texture to your footage. Participants will have access to Super-8 cameras to shoot an in-camera film, 1 roll of Super 8 film and all the chemicals and supplies required for processing. Day One covers how to use a Super 8 camera, film stocks, speeds and processing options. On Day Two, come to class with your roll of exposed Super 8 film and learn the chemistry of hand-processing. Later in the afternoon participants will learn techniques of “direct animation” where you mark on the film with inks, stamps, Sharpies, sandpaper and bleach.
