Introduction to 16mm Film Production
DATES: Wednesdays September 1, 8, 29 - 6:30-9pm; Saturdays, September 11, 18 - 12-4pm; FALL 2010
Participants will learn basic 16mm (Bolex) camera operation techniques, operation of light meters, lighting for film, and editing on Scribe’s Steenbeck flatbed film editor. Each participant will access to the Bolex outside of class and have the opportunity to shoot their own100-ft roll of 16mm film. The Saturday session is intended for a location shoot.
8 Week High Definition Production Workshop
DATES: Saturdays, July 24, 31, August 7, 14, 21, 28, September 11, 25 TIME: 10:00AM-2:00PM; SPRING 2010
This workshop will cover all major aspects of scripting and shooting a short non-fiction film in High Definition video. Over the 8 weeks participants will refine their idea and shoot it using Scribe’s Sony ZIU HD Camera. The class includes instruction in scriptwriting, production planning, HD camera operation, lighting for HD and sound recording. Projects can not be longer than 10 minutes. We encourage documentary subjects that explore personal visions, social issues and/or community life. Participants will work together as crew on each others’ projects. In the fall Scribe will offer a High Definition Final Cut Pro Editing Class.
Participants must submit a brief written description about their proposed project for the 8-week workshop and are required to speak with the instructor before the start date. Workshop is limited to 6 participants.
14 Week Digital Video Production
DATES: Wednesdays, March 17, 24, 31, April 7, 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12, 19, 26, and June 2, 9, 16 and Saturdays, March 20, 27, April 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 June 5, 12, 19, 26 TIME: Wednesdays 7:00 - 9:00 PM and Saturdays 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM; SPRING 2010
This semester-long “how-to” workshop covers all major aspects of film and video production and supports participants in the completion of short individual projects.
Bring your project ideas and get instruction in scriptwriting, production planning, digital video, sound recording, lighting and editing. The workshop will meet on Wednesday evenings and Saturdays, with additional time for shooting and editing projects. Participants will work together as crew on each others’ projects. Two instructors, each with their own area of expertise, will co-teach this workshop.
Participants with projects who are interested in registering must submit a brief written description about their proposed project for the 14-week workshop and are required to meet with one of the instructors prior to the workshop. Non-fiction projects exploring personal visions, social issues and/or community life, under 10 minutes in length, are encouraged. Please note there is limited space for participants without projects who wish to attend the workshop training sessions and serve on crews for other projects.

Super 8 Hand Processing
DATES: TBA (Fall 2009)
Super 8 Hand-processing is an adventurous hands-on technique that adds character and texture to your footage. Participants will have access to Super-8 cameras to shoot an in-camera film, 1 roll of Super 8 film and all the chemicals and supplies required for processing. During these two days you learn how to use a Super 8 camera, film stocks, speeds and processing options and by day two learn the chemistry of hand-processing By the end, your newly developed roll of film will be loaded into the Super 8 projector and screened!

Super 8 Hand-processing
DATES: Friday, August 7 and Saturday August 8; TIME: Friday 6:30 – 9:30 PM and Saturday from noon to 5pm
Super 8 film continues to be a popular movie maker’s medium, with its unique look and feel. Hand-processing is an adventurous hands-on technique that adds character and texture to your footage. Participants will have access to Super-8 cameras to shoot an in-camera film, 1 roll of Super 8 film and all the chemicals and supplies required for processing. Day One covers how to use a Super 8 camera, film stocks, speeds and processing options. On Day Two, come to class with your roll of exposed Super 8 film and learn the chemistry of hand-processing. Later in the afternoon participants will learn techniques of “direct animation” where you mark on the film with inks, stamps, Sharpies, sandpaper and bleach.
8-Week Video Completion Workshop
DATES: Saturdays, July 11, 18, 25, August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; Saturdays 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Too often good projects that get started NEVER get finished! This summer Scribe presents an 8 week project completion class that focuses on finishing CURRENT (or PAST) projects and developing advanced production and post-production skills in SD and HD videomaking. Students will have opportunities to grow their projects, learn advanced editing skills, and work with (and edit) a variety of formats into a cohesive single project.

Friday, August 10 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM includes Storyville screening & Saturday, August 11 from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM followed by a 7:00 PM screening.
