Planning a Low-Budget Documentary

Have an idea for a video documentary project? This intensive workshop is designed for people who want to work in small-format video (DV, MiniDV and HDV). Learn how to creatively develop and break down your idea into a one-page treatment and introduce materials to create project production schedules and a sample budget. This is the ideal workshop for first-time videomakers at the start of their projects.

Panel Discussion: Ethnographic Filmmaking

Please join us for this special panel discussion on ethnographic filmmaking.
Naomi Schiller, Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Temple University, will present on her work in Caracas, Venezuela where she worked with community media producers to collaboratively produce short films about community television production in Caracas.
Maris Gillette, Professor of Anthropology at Haverford College, will discuss ethnographic film in China – who is making it, why, and how. She will also talk about collaborative media projects in China and how they relate to ethnographic film.
John L. Jackson, Jr., Richard Perry University Professor of Communication and Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania, will present on what counts as an ethnographic film and who can make them.

Orientation to Scribe

An overview of all the resources of Scribe Video Center. This orientation session will direct you to the resources, workshops and programs that can get your project off the ground. Scribe staff will be on hand to answer your questions and to give details about all our program offerings. If you are new to Scribe, please plan to attend one of these introductory sessions.
Introduction to Non-Linear Editing (Apple’s Final Cut Pro)/New Start Date
DATES: Mondays, April 30, May 7, 14, 21; June 4, 11; TIME: 7:00PM-9:00PM; SPRING 2012
Learn basic editing with Apple’s Final Cut Pro, an exciting and powerful non-linear editing program that combines professional capability with consumer-level accessibility. This course builds a strong foundation that gets you started with logging, capturing, editing, transitions and much more. Apple computer knowledge is highly recommended. Participants will be expected to edit assignments outside of class either at their own Final Cut Pro workstation or at Scribe.
