Two short films about the lives of West African refugees and how they cope, and often excel, in their new homes.

Limbo (2016, 34 min), produced by Crosscurrent Pictures, explores the lives of West African migrants who survive the perilous journey to Italy and now face a legal system unprepared to accommodate them. The film also presents how some Italians are calling for a new conception of migration that recognizes migrants’ human rights and the responsibility of the West.

Tokay (Work-In-Progress,14 min), directed by Toni Shapiro-Phim and Philadelphia Folklore Project, is one in a series of four documentaries focusing on the lives and artistry of exceptional Philadelphia-area Liberian immigrant women. This movie tells the story of a Liberian singer whose dynamism, creativity, and sense of responsibility to her country bumps up against civil strife in her homeland.

Free admission is made possible by FreeView, a program supported by PNC Arts Alive
