Master Class with Barbara McCullough – Representation, Experimentation and Directorial Choices
Master Class with Barbara McCullough – Representation, Experimentation and Directorial Choices
This workshop examines the structure of McCullough’s documentaries and the influences on her work drawn from two films and other sources. Discussion will explore how immersion into subjects’ stories and lives effect objectivity in the filmmaking process. McCullough’s projects HORACE TAPSCOTT: MUSICAL GRIOT and SHOPPING BAG SPIRITS AND FREEWAY FETISHES: REFLECTIONS ON RITUAL SPACE will be discussed. While there is a distinct difference in the two works, each film demonstrates how idiosyncrasies propel both the seriousness and whimsy of the narrative.
